Opera Briefings and Breakfast - Ernani

Saturday, February 25, 2012 - 9:30am

ernaniCollected Works Bookstore hosts the Opera Briefings and Breakfast lecture series for a presentation on Verdi's Ernani.  The Metropolitan Opera Simulcast Presentation will follow at 11am at the Lensic.  This event is co-sponsored by the Breakfast Lecture Team and Collected Works Bookstore with the cooperation of the Santa Fe Opera Guild.  The charge for the lecture is $5; patrons are responsible for their choices from the extensive breakfast menu.

Guests will be briefed on Verdi's early gem Ernani, which is based on Victor Hugo's play Hermani.  Ernani follows the struggle of an outlawed nobleman as he heads a resistance effort against the villianous king who killed his father, and attempts to protect his lover from the king's insatiable desires.  Angela Meade takes center stage in the Metropolitan Opera's production of Verdi's classic, with Marcello Giordani starring as her mismatched lover and all-star Verdians Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Ferruccio Furlanetto rounding out the cast.
